The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23rd April 1995, and since then the literacy appreciation event has grown in popularity across the globe. In the UK, our World Book Day is held on the first Thursday of every March, allowing students and teachers to participate during term time. As well as gifting every school child a voucher to put towards a book of their choice, little ones are encouraged to dress up for the day and celebrate their favourite literary characters. Teachers and other adults may also want to get in on the action and show their love for their own fictional heroes.
